Why do we learn history?
A high-quality history education will help pupils gain a coherent knowledge and understanding of Britain’s past and that of the wider world. It should inspire pupils’ curiosity to know more about the past. History helps pupils to understand the complexity of people’s lives, the process of change, the diversity of societies and relationships between different groups, as well as their own identity and the challenges of their time.

Our approach
At Ark Tindal Primary Academy, our History curriculum has been designed to ignite children’s curiosity about the past through a topic-based approach and hands on experience through the use of artefacts, resources and experiences. We are determined that children will work as historians and develop their historical vocabulary, chronological understanding, knowledge and interpretation skills and their historical enquiry skills. The way we teach History is intended to equip children to ask perceptive questions about the past, analyse sources of evidence, think critically and develop informed judgements. We strive to teach children to explore and understand the complexity of people’s lives, the process of change, the diversity of societies and relationships between different groups, as well as gain a sense of their own identity within a social, political, cultural and economic background.
