Local Author Visits ARK Tindal Primary Academy

Gamiel Yafai visited the children at ARK Tindal Primary Academy on Thursday 6th February 2014 to share his stories of growing up in Balsall Heath before his father took him to what he believed was a holiday to the Yemen at the age of 11, but ended up living in the Yemen for two and half years. Gamiel shared with the children and parents how this affected his education as on his return to the United Kingdom Gamiel found that he spent the next few years playing catch up with his education as he had missed so much. He had to enrol on to Night College where he spent three nights a week catching up on vital learning he missed as a child.

Gamiel informed the children and parents that he had to work twice as hard to get where he is now. He now runs a successful company in Milton Keynes working in the field of equality and diversity.

Gamiel’s childhood experiences made him write a book ‘Yemen Proud’ to make Yemenis living in Britain proud of their heritage.
